The Color of Justice - Mock Trial & Essay Contest
The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Virginia is hosting the Color of Justice this year, which is a terrific program for 7th-12th grade students to learn about our justice system and to get exposure to judges and lawyers. Lawyers and judges from the Northern Virginia area put on a mock trial, and the students act as jurors. There is also an optional essay contest element with cash prizes for the students. Lunch is included and provides the kids with an opportunity to sit and speak with lawyers and judges about the practice of law. The overarching goal of the COJ program is to encourage minority students to pursue careers in the law, so many of the legal practitioners come from minority/underserved backgrounds as well.
