Dear Oakton High School Parents, Students, and Staff,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Jamie Lane, currently serving as an Assistant Principal at McLean High School, has been selected to serve as the new Principal of Oakton High School effective April 16, 2018.

Ms. Lane brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences to the principalship. Over the past 12 years, she has had the opportunity to work as a teacher leader and Assistant Principal in Region 5 and Region 2 schools. Ms. Lane began her career as a Social Studies teacher at Westfield High School. Ms. Lane served as a Virginia History Collaborative Team Leader and was selected to represent the Westfield HS Social Studies Department on the School Improvement Team. She co-authored a comprehensive service learning proposal to accommodate the FCPS Service Learning Standards.

At McLean HS, Ms. Lane supervised the Science, Special Education (CAT B), Social Studies and Fine Arts Departments of McLean High School. She has worked alongside teacher leaders on collaborative teams to improve teaching and learning strategies that have resulted in annual increases in Advanced Placement scores. Strengthening the McLean High School teacher mentoring program, creating improved financial procedures and guidelines for the Performing Arts Program, and implementing a Project Based Learning Committee to increase student engagement, were just a few of the highlights of Ms. Lane’s tenure at McLean High School.

Ms. Lane received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from The Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Education, in Educational Leadership from George Mason University. Ms. Lane is absolutely thrilled to begin working with the students, staff, and families of the Oakton HS community.

Please join me in welcoming Jamie Lane as the new Principal of Oakton HS.

Sincerely,
Douglas A. Tyson
Assistant Superintendent, Region 1
