Cell Phone Policy

Oakton High School is one of a handful of high schools testing a new program for students to store cell phones during instructional times. Our staff will be helping make sure our students follow the cell phone rules we already have. These rules are in place to help make Oakton High School a great place to learn.

Middle and High School Immunization Clinics

All FCPS middle and high schools will host a free immunization clinic this fall in collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department. Students must participate at the school where they are enrolled. Clinics will be held during school hours. Parents/caregivers must sign a consent form for students under 18.

Purple Star Designation Award for Oakton High School

October 24, 2024
The Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children voted on October 21, 2024, to approve Oakton High School as a recipient of the SY 2024-2025 Purple Star Award.

National Merit Semi-Finalists and Commended Scholars

October 15, 2024
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships that began in 1955. United States high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which serves as an initial screen of over 1.3 million entrants each year.

This year Oakton High School had 12 National Merit Semi-Finalists and 67 National Merit Commended Students

Oakton High School Celebrates Its AP Capstone Diploma Recipients

At Oakton High School, 21 students have earned the AP Capstone Diploma™. Additionally, 6 students have earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ during the 2023-24 school year. The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are essential to academic success.

Woodson Community Celebrates New Namesake, Reflects on History at Carter G. Woodson Dedication Ceremony

The FCPS school board voted last year to rename Woodson High School for Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who is widely considered the “Father of Black History.” Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a journalist and an educator, later became Dean of Howard University’s College of Arts and Sciences.
