College and Career Center Updates

College & Career Center Updates, which include local open houses/events, enrichment programs, scholarships, job and volunteer opportunities, and much more, are sent out to students periodically through Naviance Student. Students who have listed an email through Blackboard will receive these emails in their inbox (make sure to check junk mail folders and "whitelist" these messages!). These emails are also stored in the "Messages" box on Naviance Student (which can be accessed through Blackboard). Parents can use their SIS parent accounts to view their student's Naviance Student account.

College Representative Visits

College representatives schedule private visits to Oakton High School from September through November.  These visits provide a personal touch that may not be available in a school's literature. Representatives inform students about the school's admissions process and deadlines, campus life, housing, majors available and scholarships. Students have the ability to ask questions and this is often a chance for students to meet the person who will read their applications in the future.  Only juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in these visits.

The schedule of college visits are updated daily in Naviance Student. Missed the visit?  Students can visit the Career Center to pick up any brochures from the college and also access notes from each visit.

Also, note that colleges and universities host open-houses and tours on their campuses (and it is so important to visit to really get a sense of a school!!!) as well as local information sessions. Check the college website for these programs and dates.
