AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination, also known as AVID, is dedicated to closing the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Career & Technical Education, also known as CTE, encompasses Business & Information Technology, Marketing, and Technology & Engineering Education.

English

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Instruction in ESOL classes takes place in English, adding to the rich diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and languages which students bring to FCPS.

Fine Arts

Art at Oakton encompasses Photography, Digital Art & Design, and Studio Art & Design. The Art course map is also linked here.

Health and Physical Education

The health and physical education program is designed to teach students the skills, knowledge and attitudes essential to live a healthy lifestyle and select healthy and safe behaviors.

Leadership and Sports Leadership

The Leadership program aims to help students develop the leadership skills and traits needed to be leaders in school and beyond while working to build a sense of community among students, teachers, staff, and parents at Oakton High School as a place to learn, work, and enjoy life.

Mathematics

The high school mathematics program includes courses from algebra through calculus. Math course map is at the bottom of the page.

Performing Arts

Students have numerous opportunities for performance and learning. These students consistently place in district and statewide events each year. Oakton is extremely proud of the students and teachers in the Department. The Performing Arts program includes Band, Chorus, Orchestra and Theater Arts.

Science

High school science students spend approximately 50 percent of their time in laboratory or research-based activities. Science course maps on the page.

Social Studies

Exploring history, geography, and government. Social Studies course map is at the bottom of the page.

Special Education

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to providing special education students with opportunities along with a continuum of services that offers access to and participation in the activities of the school and community environments as appropriate to the age and educational needs of the student.

World Languages

The high school World Language curriculum provides a comprehensive study of language and develops the four skills of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. World Languages Course Map included at the bottom of the page.
